Task 1 Pass for sideline inbound and finish
Basketball drill task 1 pass for sideline inbound and finish
STEP 1

2v2. Attacker 1 (A1) inbound passes from the sideline; A2 starts from the baseline and must touch both cones before attempting to receive the ball. There are two defenders (D1 and D2), initially matched up one-on-one.

STEP 2

Once A2 has touched both cones, they look to receive the pass from A1. One issue here is that the defenders know A2 cannot receive the ball until both cones have been touched. Could a scoring system be introduced that awards more or fewer points to the offense depending on whether A2 touches one or both cones before receiving the pass?

STEP 3

After touching both cones, A2 looks to receive the pass from A1, who must choose the appropriate type of pass depending on A2's position and the positioning of both defenders.

STEP 4

Once A2 has possession of the ball, A1 looks to get open to facilitate the pass from A2 back to A1.

STEP 5

A2 looks to return the ball to A1, either with a direct pass or by dribbling until finding a better passing angle (the diagram does not allow me to add the possibility of A2 dribbling after indicating the pass).

STEP 6

A2 moves towards the basket, offering a passing option to A1, while A1 must decide whether to pass or drive to the basket.

STEP 7

In this final diagram, the play should be completed through passes between the offensive players, looking for the best scoring opportunity.

Drill

Task 1 Pass for sideline inbound and finish

2v1 developed in the half court; Attacker 2 starts at the half-court line and, after touching the two cones, looks to receive the pass from attacker 1, who is inbounding from the sideline. Meanwhile, the defender must decide whether to make the inbound difficult or pressure the receiver. A variation can include adding a second defender and even playing it in a 3v3 format.
