UCLA Cut - Example of Offense
STEP 1

Initial positions are set so the team can move in a coordinated way and create space.

STEP 2

To start, a dribble entry toward the right wing is executed. When this happens, 2 performs a zipper cut to the top using the screen set by 4.

After that, 2 receives the ball from 1 while 4 relocates to the high post elbow on the right side. Additionally, during this action, 3 uses a V-cut to open near the left wing area.

STEP 3

Then, 2 dribbles toward the left slot area, and 3 receives the ball from 2. After that, 2 executes a UCLA cut toward the basket using the UCLA screen set by 5.

From there, 2 could receive the ball from 3 and score if open. Otherwise, if 2 is not open, 2 could cut to the left low post area while 1 moves to the empty right corner.

STEP 4

Next, 3 dribbles toward the center of the court using the ball screen set by 5. Also, after the ball screen action, 2 cuts to the previously occupied left wing area using a down screen set by 5.

At the same time, 1 cuts toward the right wing area using a wide screen set by 4. After that, 1 could receive the ball from 3 and take an open jump shot, or 2 could receive the ball and also take an open jump shot.

Additionally, if 2 receives the ball but does not take the jump shot, then 4 could fill the empty right corner.

STEP 5

From that point, 5 could receive the ball from 2, and then a post split action could occur. Therefore, 3 could cut toward the left side using an off-ball screen set by 2.

Additionally, 2 could slide the screen and cut toward the basket as well. Afterwards, 3 could receive the ball from 5 and take an open jump shot. Alternatively, 2 could receive it and score at the basket.

On the other hand, if 5 decides to score with a low post move, then 2 could fill the right corner while 4 fills the right wing and 1 fills the top to create balance.
