Zone Defense 1-3-1 critical situations (ball to high post)
STEP 1
If the ball reaches the high post, defender 5 prevents 4 from turning while 3 executes a 2x1. Defenders 2 and 4 move down to the low posts while 1 protects the rim.
The best outcome for the defense is for 4 to pass to 2 or 1 so the zone can recover.
Another option is to include defender 2 (ball side) in the trap (3x1) to make 4’s pass more difficult.
