Offense system against individual defense based on Dean Smith's system, University of North Carolina
STEP 1

It will start with a 1-2-2 set. The point guard initiates the offense by passing the ball to the opposite side of where the wing we want to play the clearing is (in this case 3). Prior to this, two outside-inside screens will have occurred to free the bigs for the wing.

STEP 2

After passing, the point guard overloads the corner. At that moment, player 2 performs a 'shuffle' move (a diagonal screen where player 2 is now inside relative to the high post on the opposite side, 5). With this ball between the bigs, we create the first shooting option. Player 2, after screening, must continue and quickly open to try to reverse the ball.

STEP 3

With the ball reversal, player 3 has a clearing where he can come out to receive and play 1×1, or attempt a quick backdoor. If this does not happen, player 4 must quickly move down with 5 to set a screen.

Offense system against individual defense based on Dean Smith's system, University of North Carolina

This offensive system is an evolution of an original idea from American coach Dean Smith used in his later years at the University of North Carolina, which is to overload with the point guard and interchange the posts to create a good clear-out.

In this case, we will first try to play an option between the big men,
to then play the clear-out. Additionally, we continue with a double screen at the baseline for the same player in case the clear-out option is not possible.

It is a relatively simple offensive system, but it should only (or at least must) be used with players who master basic game concepts and have a good level when executing individual fundamentals. Regarding timing, it is not necessary to run it at full speed. Even doing it slowly, properly setting screens and making good rhythm changes, would be more productive.
