Against a mixed defense, you need to adapt by using and combining individual and zone attack concepts. The main aspects are:
- Divisions
- Gaps
- Direct and indirect screens, for both individual defenders and zone defenders
- Offensive rebounding
- Psychological condition of the individually defended player
The first three tactical concepts should be taught in parts: explain and practice one, then add the others. Divisions and gaps go together, as attacking the zone while dividing creates spaces to exploit, linked to passing lines when a player drives or makes an interior pass.
