CLOSE OUT EXERCISES - EXERCISE 5 (extra)

DEVELOPMENT:
The exercise starts when defender passes the ball to attacker 1. At that moment, the defender approaches attacker 1 starting with the first defensive task of the exercise: hand activity. Attacker 1 helps the defense by moving the ball (simulating protecting it). When attacker 1 wants to, they will pass the ball to attacker 2. The defender must go touch the ball in attacker 2’s hands with the hand closest to them (simulating a lateral help “stunt”) and, when attacker 2 returns the ball to attacker 1, the defender must recover their defensive position. Attacker 1 can only receive the ball outside the 6.75 line and as soon as they receive it from attacker 2, they will initiate a 1x1, creating a lateral close out situation.
VARIANTS:
- Attacker 2 can also initiate the 1x1 if, when they have the ball, attacker 1 decides to make a hand change between the legs (this will be the signal for the defense) followed by a pass to attacker 2. The defender will have to go directly to defend attacker 2 (if they arrive early enough, they may be forced to touch the ground with both hands before going to defend attacker 2).
- Change starting positions (corner + 45) to make the stunt longer.
