CLOSE OUT EXERCISES - EXERCISE 7

Drill
DEVELOPMENT:

Attackers 1 and 2 will pass the ball until one of them decides to attack the basket for a 1x1, but they can only do so at the moment of receiving the pass. Meanwhile, defenders will have to change their defensive position depending on whether they are guarding a player with the ball or without the ball, until one of them has to defend the close-out of their match-up.

VARIATIONS:
- We can allow the attackers to take 1-2 dribbles without necessarily attacking the basket, forcing the defender without the ball to stunt and making it harder for them to recover.
- If we want to emphasize the close-out, we can place the defender of the off-ball player in a “Last” position, simulating that they are guarding a player in the corner, so that they have to cover more space.

#Other

STEP 1 Initial formation of players, ready to start the play with fluidity and clear passing lanes.
STEP 2 Shooting guard places themselves strategically to generate passing angles and anticipate defensive moves. Point guard alters position to create defensive mismatches and penetration options. Point guard adjusts position to facilitate ball movement and anticipate the defense.
